Info Post
Ever wanted to own a Tube station? For less than a price of a flat in the area, you could buy the former Shoreditch London Underground station. Shoreditch station was closed in 2006 and replaced by a new Shoreditch High Street station when the East London Line was extended last year.

Former Shoreditch station

The auctioneers of the station describe it as a single storey building, comprising of a ticket office, a lobby area, store rooms, plant rooms and a WC. There is "potential for alternative uses", just in case anyone felt they could only build another Tube station there! Apart from the wildlife, the 1,688 square foot area comes with "full vacant possession" (no left over trains or staff then) and is "within a popular residential area with its many trendy bars and restaurants". The guide price (ie the least TfL are willing to accept) is £180,000.  Bargain!

Given the proximity to Brick Lane and Old Spitalfields market, I'd imagine the place would become yet another trendy bar or restaurant. Although being so close to the railway line, it might be nice to make a nod to its former use and give it a Tube or railway name or theme.

Viewing times of the lot are at 11.30am this Monday, Wednesday and Friday and also at 11.30am on Monday 14th February. Don't just see it as the opportunity to have a final nose around the station before it get turned into something else. However,  if don't mind being subjected to a sales pitch and are good a looking & acting like a potential buyer...... ! Full details of Lot 76 are here.

Thanks to Darren & my mate Kathryn for letting me know about this.
